Motherwell 2 - 1 Aberdeen

May 10, 2008

Motherwell all but clinched third place in the  SPL following a dramatic game at Fir Park this afternoon. A late winner from Chris Porter secured the points after Darren Smith opened the scoring for the home side on the 59 minutes. The lead lasted only 10 minutes before Sone Aluko drove home the equaliser from a Darren Mackie cross.

However, despite looking more dangerous in the second half with Nicholson and Aluko coming close, it was the home team that eventually scored when Porter swept home a Stephen Hughes cross past Jamie Langfield.

With Dundee United losing away to Rangers, Motherwell knew that a Celtic win over Hibernian tomorrow would secure them the third spot and European football for the first time since 1995.
